The only bridges in the state’s turnpike system that are designed similarly to the one that collapsed three years ago in Minneapolis will be torn down and replaced.
The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority on Thursday approved a $12.6 million contract to tear down the eastbound and westbound 330-foot-long bridges on the Will Rogers Turnpike in far northeastern Oklahoma and build two new ones.
The deck truss bridges run parallel to each other across Five Mill Creek about nine miles northeast of Miami and about three miles from the Missouri border.
Manhattan Road & Bridge Co. is to start construction in June, said Tim Stewart, the Turnpike Authority’s deputy director.
