A few bright spots emerge

There's good news and bad news in the latest state revenue collections report. Considering the way the economy has been behaving lately, let's concentrate on the good news.
General revenue fund collections for November were about $346 million, more than $29 million or about 9.3 percent above the previous year. Unfortunately, November collections were about 2.7 percent below projections.
The report from state Treasurer Scott Meacham noted that income tax collections, after showing improvements in October, dropped below the prior year and the estimate in November. But he said that was primarily due to an increase in refunds and incentive payments allowed under state legislation.
The state sales tax showed a healthy bounce, generating $134.8 million for November - about $11.6 million, or 9.5 percent, above the prior year. The figure is $4.8 million, or 3.7 percent, above the estimate, suggesting consumers are feeling a bit better about spending these days... FULL ARTICLE
