When we think of public servants who risk their lives to serve us, we typically think of police officers and firefighters. But road construction workers also face life-threatening risks every time they show up for work.
The least we can do for these hardworking fellow Oklahomans, who must endure weather extremes as well as high-speed traffic whizzing past them, is slow down and be careful nearing and passing through construction zones.
Brian Sutton, a Washington County superintendent for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, issued a plea for motorists to drive with care in the aftermath of the Nov. 30 death of Ira Henderson.
Sutton told the Tulsa World's Jarrel Wade that he had hired Henderson only five months before his death, which occurred when a crew of seven ODOT workers removed signs on U.S. 75 south of Bartlesville. Henderson had been a long-haul truck driver but took the ODOT job to be closer to his family, Sutton said... FULL ARTICLE
