TULSA - From Riverside to Catoosa, I-244 to the Gilcrease Expressway, no matter which direction you travel you're likely to run into construction.
Dozens of road projects are underway in the Tulsa metro and the 8 year plan is stacking up.
"We've got sections of pavement that are 40 to 50 years old, we've got bridges that are 70 to 80 years old." said ODOT Engineer, Randle White.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is currently tackling it's 8-year plan. A lack of funding in the past has put the department way behind, now they're playing catch up and it's impacting highways and interstates across the metro area; most noticeably at I-44.
"The I-44 construction is just getting overwhelming." said Tulsa driver, Andrew Crume.
Crews are working on a very tight deadline. Phases two and three of the widening project are currently underway at Harvard and Peoria Avenues. The final phase at Lewis Avenue is set to begin next year.
"That project will be a very difficult project because we will end up having to close down Lewis when we reconstruct the bridge." explained White... FULL ARTICLE
