Road work starts to straighten dangerous Collinsville 'S' curve

COLLINSVILLE - Barricades are up and bulldozers running in west Collinsville. And City Manager Pam Polk couldn't be happier.

"It feels awesome," she said. "People have asked for three or four years now, 'When is this going to get started?' "

This is the straightening of the so-called "S" curve, a traffic hazard that has plagued the town for years. Construction on the project began in June and is expected to be completed this spring.

The existing curve, which connects Oklahoma 20, or Broadway Street, with Main Street, flummoxes motorists because of its three-way intersection at 19th and Broadway.

"It's our No. 1 collision intersection, and it extends from the locals to people who are just coming in for a Friday night football game," Collinsville Police Lt. Daniel Boggs said. "You can go out there at any time and people are just confused on what to do... FULL ARTICLE
