NORMAN — The newly constructed Rock Creek Road bridge at Interstate 35 goes nowhere for now, but eventually will connect to a roadway, providing motorists, pedestrians and bicyclists a convenient and safe way to cross the highway, city officials said.
Crews are working on improvements to Rock Creek Road that will link it to the bridge, Public Works Director Shawn O'Leary said. The bridge and street improvements should be complete by June, he said.
Once the bridge is open, officials hope it will alleviate traffic congestion at the I-35 interchanges with Robinson Street and Tecumseh Road.
State Transportation Department workers built the bridge simultaneous to an I-35 widening project, which increased the highway from four to six lanes.
