Officials in Sapulpa and Tulsa have worked out a compromise that would allow Tulsa to annex property around the future interchange of the Gilcrease Expressway and its link to Interstate 44.
Sapulpa officials had looked at a fenceline annexation of that property, but, after negotiations this week with Tulsa, the city of Sapulpa instead apparently will focus its annexation plans on more than 300 acres to the southwest of that future interchange.
Ken Hill, assistant public works director for Tulsa, said Tulsa has spent a lot of time and money over the years on extending the Gilcrease Expressway to I-44, and the question arose on who would be liable for that portion of construction of the interchange.
Tulsa officials said the city has already invested about $20 million on the Gilcrease Expressway.
David Widdoes, city attorney for Sapulpa, said a compromise "has been agreed to in concept by representatives of both cities, which I don't think will meet with objections among city leaders" in either community.
Widdoes said the compromise is in the interest of both cities, with Sapulpa tailoring its fenceline annexation plans more closely around property owners who want to be annexed into Sapulpa... FULL ARTICLE
