— Sgt. Gary Foreman recently discussed State Question 744 with family members who whole-heartedly supported the proposition — until they learned more.
“After I explained where the money is going to come from, they changed their minds,” said Foreman, a correctional officer at Jess Dunn Correctional Facility.
“I might be wrong, but it seems to me that when they were getting this proposal to go to vote, no one had informed the people where the money would come from,” he said. “I feel like there would be drastic cuts in prisons, public safety, transportation, and a lot of jobs will be lost.”
SQ 744 would require Oklahoma to increase the amount of money spent on each student in public schools to a regional average — approximately $2,000 per student more.
With about 462,000 students in public education, Oklahoma would have to spend approximately $924 million more a year... FULL ARTICLE
