Second phase Intelligent Traffic System being installed

Work on the second phase of the three part Intelligent Traffic System (ITS) is underway, said Larry Stevens, city manager.

“ITS includes the use of field devices, communications infrastructure, and computer systems to improve both traffic safety and mobility during congested periods, construction activities, maintenance activities, and traffic collisions and other emergencies,” Stevens said before the Edmond City Council this week.

Phase 2 of the project involves replacing 22 traffic signal cabinets and controllers on Broadway, Danforth and Covell, Stevens explained.

The second phase of ITS has a 375-day time frame. Stevens said the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is the project’s administrator and will pay for 80 percent of the $6.75 million funding.
