Self-evident
One ploy of the State Question 744 campaign is to demonize opponents as being greedy. They don't want to pay higher taxes, don't want to give up state-sanctioned incentives, etc. This argument is actually one of the best for opposing 744. The primary beneficiaries of this teachers union money grab are those pushing it. Take a look at the list of 744 supporters we published on Oct. 20. It's populated almost entirely by groups with the words "schools" or "education" in their names. They would all benefit directly — and substantially — from a massive increase in school funding. Nothing's wrong with self-interest. If it's OK for 744 supporters, it should be OK for opponents. The self-interest of most Oklahomans, we would add, is best served by defeating the measure.
