The Senate embraced late Friday night an $8.2 billion transportation improvement program that bipartisan advocates described as a major economic stimulus for Kansas.
Senate President Steve Morris, R-Hugoton, said the measure was the kind of economic development initiative worthy of unanimous support in the chamber. His assessment was as bit optimistic, given a final vote of 25-13.
"This is a step we can take to help ourselves," Morris said. "This is a good piece of economic news."
