OKLAHOMA CITY – The Oklahoma Senate, still facing the prospect of a billion-dollar-plus budget hole, will furlough its staff sometime later this year, its Republican leader confirmed last week.
Speaking at his weekly meeting with members of the Capitol press corps, Senate Pro Tempore Glenn Coffee, R-Oklahoma City, said the Senate’s staff would see furlough days, probably following the end of the legislative session.
“The cuts that we’re talking about are real and they apply to all agencies,” he said. “The Legislature isn’t spared. I’ve been meeting with our chief of staff trying to identify areas where we can cut costs further and prepare for what we have to do for this next fiscal year.”
However, Coffee said “he wasn’t prepared to say” how many furlough days would be needed or exactly when those furloughs would start... FULL ARTICLE
