Shawn O’Leary: Former ‘bridge to nowhere’ could open July 1

NORMAN — Once jokingly referred to as “the bridge to nowhere,” the Rock Creek overpass straddling Interstate 35 is expected to open July 1, a city official says.

Public Works Director Shawn O’Leary said the bridge could open sooner, directly linking the University North Park shopping area with the west side of the city.

“It’s tentative, but the end of the (construction) contract is July 7,” he said. “We really think it might be sooner than that. Maybe some time in June, but certainly by July 1.”

O’Leary said the idea for the $12.5 million Rock Creek overpass traces its roots to the inception of the ambitious UNP Tax Increment Finance district... FULL ARTICLE
