SHAWNEE, Okla. — Shawnee city commissioners approved a resolution confirming support for a “project agreement for federal-aid improvements” between the city and Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Those improvements include grading, draining and surface work along Kickapoo Street. That work is divided into three phases that will widen the street between Kickapoo Spur and about 1 mile north of MacArthur Street.
Dan Overland, chairman of the State Transportation Commission, said the state originally was set to put $4 million toward that project but later, federal dollars were earmarked and brought about $1 million more to the table.
Now, ODOT’s portion of the $11,013,760 project is about $7.7 million, with construction costs making up $6,856,476 of that total and engineering and design costs of $88,201 picking up the remainder.
“This is the last of the ‘big three’ you’re addressing tonight,” Overland told commissioners Monday. “This is the finalization of something that started in 2003. It’s a great thing for Shawnee.” FULL ARTICLE
