Short-term extension highway funding bill likely, Lankford says in Oklahoma City

The freshman congressman tells a highway booster group that Congress needs to pass a multiyear funding bill soon.

Congress this month likely will pass a short-term extension of the federal highway bill, U.S. Rep. James Lankford predicted to a group of road- and bridge-building boosters Thursday.

It would be the eighth extension of the surface transportation bill, Lankford, R-Oklahoma City, said to members of TRUST, Transportation Revenues Used Strictly for Transportation coalition, during a breakfast meeting at the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame museum.

Lankford, a member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, said a short-term extension would give Congress time to work on a multiyear bill.

The House of Representatives and Senate still have to get their versions passed out of committees.
