State Rep. Kris Steele has a passion for policy aimed at improving the health of Oklahomans without breaking the bank or forcing unpopular mandates on citizens or businesses.
Steele, R-Shawnee, is in line to be the next speaker of the House, a position he can hold for only two years because of term limits. It’s hard to imagine he can do more in those two years as speaker than he has since 2001 as an "ordinary” member — including six years while Republicans were in the minority.
He’s not directly involved in ongoing budget negotiations, but Steele knows the legislative session that started Monday won’t have the money to fund grand ideas. Sometimes, though, a series of "small” ideas can add to up to grand ones...
