OKLAHOMA CITY — Shortly before 5 p.m. Friday, the bells inside the Capitol went silent, bringing an abrupt halt to a rancorous legislative session.
It was marked by arduous debate over federal health-care reform, abortion, guns and government services.
In the end, lawmakers crafted a nearly $6.7 billion state budget sparing core agencies from what could have been devastating cuts.
The budget was finalized using targeted cuts, the state "rainy day" fund, federal stimulus dollars and a number of revenue-enhancement measures. Some tax credits and incentives were put on hold. The moves plugged a $1.2 billion hole in the fiscal year 2011 budget... FULL ARTICLE
