Drivers of six-axle truck rigs traveling from Oklahoma City to Tulsa on the Turner Turnpike are charged $20 in tolls. A Christmas buying excursion at Outlet Shoppes in west Oklahoma City will cost Edmond drivers of two-axle vehicles $4.60 for a round trip.
Regardless of for whom the turnpike tolls, driving on “paid roads” is getting steeper. Oklahomans grumble about tolls, but imagine the windshield sticker shock of a trucker going from Baltimore to New York on a series of turnpikes. The fare is just under $210. One way. One time.
AAA spokesman Chris Plaushin told stateline.org that tolls are on the rise because times are tough for the states that built and operate toll roads. They're seeking any way to raise revenues... FULL ARTICLE
