OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma’s economy is regaining its strength and expanding at an accelerating pace, state Treasurer Ken Miller said Tuesday.
Speaking at an afternoon press conference at the state Capitol, Miller said the state experienced double-digit growth in every major revenue category, showing strong growth, earnings and consumption.
“Now entering the third year of the cyclical expansion, Oklahoma’s double-digit revenue growth last month shows our state’s economy is clearly regaining its strength while the national economy continues its rather anemic growth,” he said.
Miller said June collections were up by more than 15 percent from fiscal year 2010. He said collections for the past 12 months are almost 8 percent above the previous 12 months.
“Month after month, the Oklahoma economy gains steam,” he said.
Yet even with the state’s strong economic growth, Miller said he was concerned that other external forces, such as Congress’ failure to address the nation’s debt ceiling, could hamper Oklahoma’s – and the rest of the nation’s – recovery... FULL ARTICLE
