OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma voters on Nov. 2 will consider dueling state questions.
Passage of State Question 744 would increase the state's per-pupil spending to the regional average.
Supporters in 2008 collected 238,000 signatures to get SQ 744 on the ballot. It is backed by the Oklahoma Education Association.
Several groups formed The One Oklahoma Coalition to oppose SQ 744, saying it would take funds from other areas of government. The measure is projected to cost at least $850 million.
"Oklahoma kids deserve a high-quality education to help them compete for jobs," said Walton Robinson, communications director for the Yes on 744 campaign. "We are not concentrating on anything but to pass 744 to ensure our kids have the tools for success."
Voters will also see State Question 754, which says the Legislature can't be compelled by a formula to provide funding at a certain level. Lawmakers last year voted to put SQ 754 on the ballot... FULL ARTICLE
