Stitt signs five bills and immediately gains hiring power at five state agencies

Gov. Kevin Stitt signed legislation on Wednesday giving him the authority to hire and fire directors at five major agencies, clinching a top priority for him and legislative leaders who complained the old system insulated agency chiefs from voters.

"We are transforming the state government for the people of Oklahoma," House Speaker Charles McCall, R-Atoka, said at a signing ceremony at the Capitol.

Stitt's signature on five bills immediately dissolved longstanding boards or commissions at the Department of Transportation; the Department of Corrections; the Office of Juvenile Affairs; the Oklahoma Health Care Authority; and the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services...
