Study examines ways to shift through traffic off of I-35 (ARTICLE & VIDEO)

It's a plan that could make Interstate 35 much more drivable. It's called "My 35." The idea is to put all of the traffic driving through Austin somewhere else.

You can count on two things during rush hour on I-35: Plenty of traffic congestion, and plenty of complaining about that congestion.
"I get off of work every day at 5 p.m. from Round Rock and I live in South Austin," said Cherilyn Jones. "It's terrible. I spend like hours in traffic."

City, county and state leaders have heard the complaints, and with the help of the Texas Department of Transportation have taken a long, hard look at the I-35 corridor from Mexico to Oklahoma. They came to several conclusions in the My 35 report.

"It is that daily commute traffic in and out of our population centers that is causing the congestion to affect that through traffic," said Robert Spillar, the Director of Transportation for the City of Austin.

So one of the My 35 recommendations is to possibly remove tolls from State Highways 130 and 45, and add a toll lane to what is now I-35, essentially switching the interstate designation from 35 to 130... FULL ARTICLE
