Todd Hiett presented the Guardian Award from transportation coalition (PRESS RELEASE)

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, December 14, 2016 – Transportation Revenues Used Strictly For Transportation (TRUST), an advocacy group dedicated to funding and restoring Oklahoma’s infrastructure, presented its sixth annual Guardian of Transportation award to former Speaker of the House Todd Hiett today during its annual Transportation Innovation Banquet held at the Oklahoma History Center. Hiett now serves on the Oklahoma Corporation Commission to which he was elected to in 2014. He previously represented District 29 in the Oklahoma House of Representatives from 1995-2007 where he served as Speaker of the House during the 2005 and 2006 legislative sessions. TRUST president Neal McCaleb, former secretary of transportation and director of the Oklahoma Department of Transportation and Oklahoma Turnpike Authority, said the award is presented to an individual that exemplifies excellence in all areas of the transportation industry.

“There are numerous deserving recipients of this award who have contributed to the tremendous progress made to improve Oklahoma’s transportation infrastructure, and Todd Hiett is one of them,” McCaleb said. “During his time as a state representative and Speaker of the House, he was a champion in advocating for transportation to be returned as a core priority of state government. His commitment to improving Oklahoma, including its infrastructure, and his dedication to that cause makes him a natural selection for this award. Commissioner Hiett has always been a prominent supporter of TRUST and our mission to ensure transportation revenues are used strictly for transportation purposes. It is an honor for TRUST to present our Guardian of Transportation award to him.”

Hiett commented, “It is an honor to receive the Guardian of Transportation award from TRUST. Over the past decade, Oklahoma has made tremendous progress in addressing its structurally deficient bridges and highways with capital projects evident across Oklahoma on both the state and county highway systems. I am pleased to have played a role in leading the House of Representatives when the effort to prioritize transportation funding as a vital component of state government began. My appreciation goes to Mark Liotta, Chris Benge and many other former House colleagues who helped in our collective cause to improve Oklahoma highways, roads and bridges, an effort I am proud to say continues today. I am very appreciative of TRUST for this honor.”

A capacity crowd of TRUST members, transportation officials and advocates, state legislators and elected officials attended the banquet which featured a ‘fireside transportation chat’ with Senate President Pro Tempore-Designate Mike Schulz and House Speaker-Designate Charles McCall. The chat was hosted by TRUST co-chairman and former Governor Frank Keating.
