TRANSPORTATION COALITION COMMENDS LEGISLATURE FOR TRANSPORTATION BOND ISSUE APPROVAL
OKLAHOMA CITY, OK, May 18, 2011 – Transportation Revenues Used Strictly For Transportation (TRUST), an advocacy group dedicated to funding and restoring Oklahoma’s infrastructure, praised the Oklahoma Legislature today for approving the FY-12 budget, allowing the Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) to seek a $70 million bond issue to maintain the department’s eight-year highway and bridge construction schedule. The bond issue was a component of the budget agreed to last week by Governor Mary Fallin, Senate Pro Tempore Brian Bingman and Speaker of the House Kris Steele. The House approved the bond issue last week.
“On behalf of all TRUST members across the state of Oklahoma, I wish to commend members of both the Senate and House for approving this important piece of legislation,” said Neal McCaleb, TRUST president. “Maintaining the eight-year construction schedule that Secretary Ridley and the ODOT staff have been so diligently working on is vital to Oklahoma’s future, both economically and with regards to infrastructure improvement. The Oklahoma Legislature and the leadership of Pro Tempore Bingman, Speaker Steele and Governor Fallin were vital to the bill becoming a reality. Each recognizes the importance of improving Oklahoma’s infrastructure and continuing on the successful improvements made over the past six years.”
