As vehicles whizzed through the newly expanded intersection of 91st street and Sheridan Road on Friday, Mayor Dewey Bartlett touted the $63.5 million in city street projects completed in 2010.

“It’s been inconvenient for private enterprises and private citizens, but at the end of the day, when it’s all done, it’s progress,” he said during a news conference at Fox Cleaners on the southeast corner of the intersection.

The project, one of 37 last year, was completed in the fall at a total cost of $4.6 million, funded through the 2001 and 2006 third-penny sales tax initiatives and 2005 general obligation bond.

Fox Cleaners owner Phillips Breckinridge said the intersection improvements will greatly help customers access his business.

“We certainly felt the effects of the construction, as all small-business owners do,” he said. “But the work really needed to be done, and you can’t have it both ways.” FULL ARTICLE
