Tulsa Transit officials are looking for ways to improve the bus system

Sept. 20-- Craig Ramsey sat in the downtown bus station Friday morning a frustrated man.

"I have been in Tulsa three years, and I've been in Atlanta and I lived in Michigan, and I can say Tulsa has the worst transit system I have ever seen in my life," he said.

It could be getting better, however, and fairly soon.

The Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority, working with regional planners, is examining immediate and near-term proposals to improve the system. The proposals were developed as part of the Regional Transit System Plan.

James Wagner, a planner for the Indian Nations Council of Governments, said the bus system changes contemplated for the next year amount to adding a little bit of service and reorganizing.

"That's really all it is," he said.

The changes proposed for the next year include standardizing transfer times, making minor route modifications, extending popular daytime routes into the evening to replace existing nighttime routes and standardizing arrival and departure times systemwide to every 30 or 60 minutes...
