TULSA – The Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority won a $2.5 million federal Clean Fuels grant to construct a compressed natural gas fueling station.
The grant, awarded by the Federal Transit Administration, is part of $164.7 million from two competitive FTA grant programs to fund 63 environmentally sustainable transit projects around the U.S. The program is designed to create jobs and promote the use of clean fuels, the administration said.
Construction of the Metropolitan Tulsa Transit Authority fueling station , which will be built at the bus facility at 510 S. Rockford, is scheduled to begin in February and take six months to complete, said Cynthia Staab, MTTA spokeswoman.
Tulsa Transit will be converting its entire fleet from diesel power to CNG over the next few years, Staab said.
“There are 35 Lift Program vehicles and 15 large fixed-route buses on order,” Staab said. “The new Lift Program vehicles will be put into service between November and March but will not be converted to CNG until the fueling station is completed.”
Bids for the first CNG fixed-route buses are scheduled to arrive in the summer of 2011... FULL ARTICLE
