An accident on the 46th Street North bridge sends debris crashing down onto Highway 169.
65
year old Floyd Hughes was hit by a large chunk of concrete that went
through his windshield. He was taken to the hospital around 8:30
Wednesday morning.
"When you have a 20 or 30 pound rock and
it's hit by a vehicle doing 60 to 65 miles an hour it's....quite a
lick," said Martin Stewart with Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Southbound
169 was shut down for a couple of hours, backing up traffic. The 46th
Street North bridge was reopened around 10:30a.m. along with the
highway.
Around 8 o'clock Wednesday morning, a pick-up truck,
driven by 23 year old Trisha Salcedo, was exiting Highway 169 North.
While crossing over the 46th Street bridge, police say Salcedo lost
control.
The pick-up slammed into the bridge wall and knocked loose rocks and the over-head sign.
The debris hit three cars heading south on 169 below, two of the drivers were not injured.
ODOT crews removed the overhead sign because it's badly damaged, they are not sure when they will replace it.
Police are still investigating. No citations have been given.
