OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority gave approval Wednesday for an engineering study of a proposed widening of the Turner Turnpike to six lanes between Bristow and Sapulpa.
The contract for slightly more than $1.1 million went to Garver LLC, an Arkansas firm with offices in several states, including Oklahoma.
Turnpike Authority Deputy Director Tim Stewart said actual construction likely would begin around 2020.
The study will evaluate potential alignments and other factors such as right-of-way acquisition, utilities and environmental issues.
The study could produce three or four alternatives, Stewart said. Engineers will winnow those to a single recommendation with a cost estimate.
Transportation Secretary Gary Ridley said the agency needs information on what problems would be associated with widening that section of the Turner from four lanes.
Stewart said the only stretch of the turnpike that has six lanes is between Sapulpa and the Creek Turnpike... FULL ARTICLE
