Turnpikes' widening plans proceed with bond action

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority is widening seven-mile sections of the Kilpatrick and Creek turnpikes. The work is expected to start in April or May and should take nearly two years.

The Oklahoma Turnpike Authority received the go-ahead Thursday to proceed with a financial package to widen the state's two urban turnpikes.

Work should begin on the Kilpatrick and Creek turnpikes in April or May and should take nearly two years to complete, said state Transportation Secretary Gary Ridley, who also is director of the Turnpike Authority.

The state Council of Bond Oversight gave its approval for the Turnpike Authority to seek a $150 million bond issue that will be used to widen seven-mile sections of the Kilpatrick and Creek turnpikes.

Lanes inside the Creek Turnpike from U.S. 75 to Memorial Drive in Tulsa will be added, and inside lanes will be added along the Kilpatrick Turnpike from Eastern Avenue to MacArthur Boulevard in Oklahoma City... FULL ARTICLE
