SHAWNEE, Okla. — Shawnee city commissioners approved, 4-1, a resolution Monday in support of increasing public safety along U.S. 177 through the installation of a traffic light at Acme Road.
The idea isn’t a new one for the state, Pottawatomie County or the city, although the intersection is outside the city limits of Shawnee, John Krywicki, city engineer, said.
“[Oklahoma Department of Transportation] has always been willing to do the project,” the city engineer said. “ODOT did a traffic study last year and it showed the intersection warrants a traffic signal. And the city passed a resolution years ago.”
City, county and ODOT officials met during the summer months and discussed each party’s role in making installation of the light a reality, Krywicki said, adding the county still needs to pass a resolution to move the proposed project forward.
He said if the county passes a resolution in support of the project, the state would pay 80 percent of the cost, while the county would pay the remaining 20 percent. The project is estimated between $160,000 and $165,000, not including engineering costs... FULL ARTICLE
