Wage rate mix-up forces ODOT to reject 11 project bids

OKLAHOMA CITY - A mix-up among U.S. Department of Labor wage rates forced Oklahoma Department of Transportation commissioners to reject 11 construction projects totaling some $9.8 million Wednesday.

When preparing information to take bids on this month's federally aided projects - none of which were located in Tulsa County - ODOT officials used old Department of Labor wage rates, said Terri Angier, ODOT spokeswoman.

Wage rates are federal standards that help contractors estimate how much it will cost them to pay workers, and, therefore, how much to bid on a project.

The U.S. Department of Labor updated the rates in May, around the same time ODOT was gathering information for its June letting.
