More bad news from the coffers corner: Oklahoma tops the nation in the decline in state revenue. And the company that misery loves to keep is a four-state area that leads every other region in declines.
The Rockefeller Institute of Government says that in the final quarter of 2009, Oklahoma had a 26.9 percent decline, well above second-place Arizona (17.1 percent). The Southwest region led the nation with an 18.1 percent drop. Oklahoma joins Texas, Arizona and New Mexico in this grouping, but no data was available from the latter state.
Things are bad everywhere, yet seven states did report fourth-quarter growth, mostly due to tax increases and aggressive attempts to collect taxes...
