Widening project at I-44, 193rd East Avenue in Catoosa finished early

CATOOSA - Traffic is smoother and local businesses are thrilled now that the widening project at Interstate 44 and 193rd East Avenue is finished.

The highway's eastbound and westbound lanes were expanded to four lanes, and 193rd East Avenue was widened to six lanes northbound and southbound from Admiral Place to Cherokee Street.

All of the lanes are open, but the shoulders could be closed for another month while sidewalk, stoplight and sod work is finished, said Brenda Perry, a spokeswoman for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation.

"As a driver, when it's open, it's done," she said.

The Cherokee Nation, which operates the neighboring Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tulsa, donated about $11 million in right-of-way and funding to the approximately $45 million project.
