Dept. of Transportation braces for historic Thanksgiving travel

Sec. Duffy urges passengers to consider dressing and behaving better

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - As millions of Americans prepare to travel for Thanksgiving, the Secretary of Transportation is confident in the status of our rails, roads, and skies.

Newark International, just across the Hudson River from New York City, was one of the 40 major airports impacted by reduced service because of the government shutdown, but Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy told reporters Monday at Newark Liberty Airport in Newark, New Jersey, and others like it are fully back in business this holiday season.

After scaling back flights because of staffing concerns, Duffy is confident our airports can handle the record number of travelers expected during the holidays. However, while he says staffing is solid, Duffy says air traffic control shortages continue. The administration is also turning its focus to a new campaign to usher in a golden age of travel - hoping to inspire more civility and even asking people to dress better during travel.
