Edmond to start $1.29M Covell, Air Depot road project May 4

The Journal Record By: Journal Record Staff April 23, 2026

EDMOND — The City of Edmond will begin construction May 4 on a project to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection of Covell Road and Air Depot Boulevard.

The work will include widening Air Depot Boulevard south of the intersection on the west side to add a third lane, as well as rebuilding and widening Covell Road east of the intersection to three lanes. Once completed, the intersection will have one through lane in each direction along with a dedicated left-turn lane.

City officials said the improvements are designed to ease congestion and enhance safety, particularly ahead of the opening of a new elementary school in the area. The project is not considered a final long-term solution but is intended to reduce delays until a larger project can be funded.
