(KTEN) — Plans to replace the Roosevelt Memorial Bridge over Lake Texoma got a big boost Wednesday from the Federal Highway Administration.

The Biden administration announced $124 million in funding for the project through the president's Investing in America agenda.

"The bridge was constructed in 1942, with a design that is now outdated to meet current traffic needs and future traffic demand," said the announcement from the US Department of Transportation.

The current two-lane bridge carries approximately 8,500 vehicles across Lake Texoma every day.

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation estimates the final project will cost more than $250 million.
