Oklahoma approves $75M Toby Keith Expressway interchange near Newcastle but says more land is needed

Oklahoma approved a $75 million interchange for the Toby Keith Expressway near Newcastle, but the project needs at least six more properties.

The state moved one step closer to a controversial multi-billion-dollar turnpike Tuesday, but it will need more land to make it happen.

The Toby Keith Expressway is planned to connect Interstate 40 between Oklahoma and Shawnee to Interstate 44 by Newcastle. While the road is already under construction, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority took another step forward in the process.

The next part that OTA wants to start on is where that road will connect to I-44. On Tuesday, the state approved a $75 million contract to build that interchange near Newcastle.
