OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City has opened its first double roundabout, known as “The Peanut,” at the intersection of NW 10th Street, Pennsylvania Avenue and Virginia Avenue.
The new intersection transforms the junction of three arterial roadways into a double roundabout designed to improve safety, traffic flow and mobility for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists.
City officials said the design helps slow vehicle speeds, reduce conflict points found at traditional signalized intersections and create a safer travel experience. Compared with conventional intersections, roundabouts can reduce serious and fatal crashes by encouraging lower speeds and reducing the likelihood of high-speed, right-angle collisions.
