Oklahoma City plans new highway gateway signs and pedestrian bridge upgrades

Oklahoma City is preparing to install gateway signs and upgrade pedestrian bridges to enhance its appearance and welcome visitors ahead of the 2028 Olympics.

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma City is set to revamp its highway entrances and pedestrian bridges with new designs and upgrades as part of a beautification project.

Mayor David Holt said the city’s highway entrances have historically lacked proper entryways.

“It’s always bothered me how our entrances to the city, especially at the highways, really historically had no entryway whatsoever,” Holt said.

The city plans to install gateway signs at 12 locations along major highways, including six primary and six secondary sign locations. The project also includes upgrades to three pedestrian bridges at SW 24th Street, Woodson Park, and Blackwelder Avenue, which will feature new art, Americans with Disabilities Act improvements, repairs, and LED accent lighting.
