Oklahoma Department of Transportation rolls out new technology to help protect highway workers

ODOT, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol are urging drivers to stay alert in work zones as new digital message board trucks are deployed to help protect highway workers from distracted driving.

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA) are rolling out new digital message boards mounted directly to maintenance trucks in an effort to improve safety in work zones.

Officials say the signs are designed to grab drivers’ attention before they reach roadside crews by displaying messages reminding motorists to slow down, move over and stay alert.

However, ODOT leaders say the most important safety feature isn’t the technology but drivers keeping their eyes on the road.
