Oklahoma election officials kick two Republicans off ballot

The Oklahoma State Election Board on Wednesday ruled former state Sen. Rob Johnson and opponent Darrick Matthews cannot run for Senate in the upcoming special elections. Both are Republicans. The decisions leave two GOP candidates — Jake Merrick and Keri Shipley — on the Feb. 9 special primary ballot. Democrats will choose that day between Dylan Billings and Molly Ooten. The special general election for the District 22 seat will be held April 6.

The elections became necessary when Sen. Stephanie Bice won her congressional bid Nov. 3.
