One unpermitted truck load hit six Oklahoma bridges in a single trip, and the mistake cost nearly half a million dollars

On December 16 of 2025 a semi-truck illegally hauling the concrete base of a utility pole wreaked havoc striking six bridges along Oklahoma’s I-44/Will Rogers Turnpike. Four overpasses had to be closed, emergency repairs had to be done and a final bill of $491,700 was reached because of that single trip.

This time luckily no one was injured. The episode shows how easily one routing failure and an inattentive driver can cause so much damage to public infrastructure. The bridges did reopen within a week but the state of what had already happened was sour. It is clear that prevention is far cheaper than rebuilding damaged structures.
