Roads, highways across parts of US cracking as heat wave spreads

(CNN) - In the midst of a dangerous heat wave, reports are coming in from across the central U.S. of high temperatures damaging roads and highways.

Authorities in South Dakota said concrete buckled on parts of Interstate 29 in Brookings.

Images also came in from Broomfield, Colorado, showing similar damage.

Authorities said another road buckled in southeast Lincoln, Nebraska. Police there said one officer helped direct traffic in the 100-degree heat to prevent drivers from damaging their vehicles.

There were more reports of heat-related roadway damage in other states, including Wisconsin and Missouri.
