26 barges break loose and float down Ohio River, damage marina and prompt bridge closures

PITTSBURGH (TND) — 26 barges broke free from where they were docked in Pittsburgh due to high rains Friday night, proceeding down the Ohio River and causing some damage along the way.

The city closed two bridges, 2.5 miles apart, in the early hours of Saturday over concerns of potential damage from the more than two dozen vessels, 23 of which were carrying loads of coal and at least one of which was carrying fertilizer.
