SHELDON, Vt. (WCAX) - Time is taking its toll on many of Vermont’s bridges, and the budget to fix them is dwindling.
Three of Sheldon’s four town-maintained bridges are currently in poor condition, according to recent Vermont Agency of Transportation inspection reports. Bridge No. 20, the town’s oldest, was recently closed after an inspection.
According to VTrans data, roughly 4% of all bridges and culverts in the state are currently in poor condition.
Sheldon Town Administrator Matt Stebbins said Bridge No. 20 was built in 1903, making it 123 years old. The newest bridge in town was built in 1933.
