Alarming increase in Oklahoma work zone accidents

(KTEN) — In the past five years, 91 people died and more than 1,200 others have been injured in work zone crashes across Oklahoma. The Sooner State also ranks among the highest in the nation for accidents involving 18-wheelers in construction areas. Oklahoma Highway Patrol Capt. Scott Hampton said cell phones and other driver distractions are often to blame. "Most of the collisions we do work are usually driver inattention or an unsafe speed, and unfortunately, most of the time its the driver's inattention-type collision," he said.
