Colbert lowers speed limit on residential street

KTEN Trois Murphy Apr 21, 2026

COLBERT, Okla. (KTEN) — New signs, new rules, and slower speeds are prompting drivers to ease off the gas pedal in Colbert.

"Initially, the truck traffic was a problem," said Mayor Timothy Fullen.

City Council members believed that problem had been solved by enacting a "no thru truck" ordinance along North Franklin Street from State Highway 91 north to the intersection of US 69/75.

The speed limit on that stretch of Franklin was originally 30 mph before it was raised to 35, increasing concerns about children's safety.

"I got a six-year-old nephew," said Colbert resident Brenda Skinner. "Sometimes he wants to cross the street to the kids across the street, and it scares me to death because of the speeders."
