OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) — A heads up to any and all travelers in the Uptown District off Northwest 23rd Street, construction will start Monday, Jan. 12, on a project providing a new look to the area that seeks to make it safer and more accessible.

“I’m personally invested in this area as it pertains to walkability and safety,” area resident Chelsea Banks said.

Banks has lived in the area for years, often visiting the Tower Theatre. She was hit by a car in 2020 while crossing 23rd Street at Walker Avenue. She’s extremely cautious when walking around the busy district that actively seeks out customers on foot.
