Construction for a new Red River bridge is planned to begin on a section of Interstate 35 between Oklahoma City and Dallas.

The bridge, which will be along the border and Oklahoma and Texas, is part of a massive project to improve the road and keep up with the population. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation said its funds fall short of doing everything they want.

Throughout the next 10 years, Texas plans to spend $2.5 billion to widen I-35 within its borders. ODOT said Oklahoma needs billions more to finish the project.

“We know we got a problem. We know it’s going to get worse. We just need to figure out how to address it," said Brian Taylor, the chief engineer at ODOT.
